Both Salisbury grammar schools use GL Assessment — but they don't set the same papers, so preparation needs to match the school.

- Three papers in one sitting: Maths (50 min), English (45 min) and Verbal Reasoning (50 min)
- No non-verbal reasoning

- A verbal skills paper: reading comprehension, spelling, punctuation, grammar and verbal reasoning
- A maths and non-verbal reasoning paper
Dates
When the Salisbury test is sat
For Year 7 entry in September 2027, South Wilts' test was on Saturday 26 September 2026, with registration open from 25 March to 1 September 2026.
The next tests, for entry in September 2028, will be sat in September 2027. Neither school has published its 2028 arrangements yet — we'll update this page when they do, and you should always check the schools' own pages.

Questions, answered
Which 11+ test do the Salisbury grammar schools use?
Both South Wilts Grammar School and Bishop Wordsworth's School currently use GL Assessment papers. South Wilts sets Maths, English and Verbal Reasoning; Bishop Wordsworth's sets a verbal skills paper and a maths and non-verbal reasoning paper.
Are the Salisbury schools switching to Quest, like Dorset?
Not as far as we know. Neither school has announced a change, but their arrangements for Year 7 entry in 2028 haven't been published yet — always check the school's own admissions page.
Do you tutor in Salisbury in person?
Salisbury lessons are online, live on Microsoft Teams — one-to-one or in a small group. In-person lessons are only available around Bournemouth, Poole and Parkstone.
Can you help with non-verbal reasoning?
Yes. Bishop Wordsworth's tests non-verbal reasoning alongside maths, and we build it into the plan for boys applying there.
We're also considering the Dorset grammar schools. Can you help with both?
Yes. The four Bournemouth and Poole grammar schools move to a Quest test from September 2027, while Salisbury currently uses GL — we prepare for both. Check the dates carefully: in 2026, the Dorset and South Wilts tests fell on the same Saturday.
